Built in 1919 by the Friars of the Province of the Holy Rosary as a vacation house for the Sisters who needed much rest due to poor health. In addition, it was also a convalescent home for the sick and the weak who needed a place to recuperate. In 1924, it became a permanent community of sisters. The sisters then offered their services as teachers in a small school in Santuario del Sto. Cristo, now Aquinas School for boys managed by the Friars. They gave classes to the boys in Santuario and to the girls in the convent. The girls\u2019 school was named St. Catherine\u2019s School<\/em> and was recognized by the government in 1929. From St. Catherine School, it changed its name to Colegio de Jesus-Maria<\/em> in 1947. And much later, changed it again to Dominican College<\/strong> in 1966. As an educational institution, it had remarkably developed from being a primary school to a college institution. Dominican College today continues to provide quality education to young girls in San Juan and the neighboring cities.<\/p>\n
